Jumping the Shark!

Now this term has been mostly attributed to television and popular culture. I would like to attribute it to our current political situation.

To wit:

“The precise moment when you know a program, band, actor, politician, or other public figure has taken a turn for the worse, gone downhill, become irreversibly bad, is unredeemable, etc.; the moment you realize decay has set in.”

Now, I am not suggesting that I didn’t know all of that all along, but Bush's threats to Iran and Syria struck me as I read his speech on the escalation of the War on Iraq.

And knowing that he had given the go ahead to attack the Iranian “Consulate” in Kurdistan and take hostages (how ironic) is definitely “Jumping the Shark” for the Whole Wide World to see.

According to William Arkin:

"If there's anything in the President Bush's remarks tonight that we didn't already know or didn't anticipate him saying militarily about Iraq, it is his evident willingness to go to war with Syria and Iran to seek peace. . . .

"There is an ominous element here: When the President pledged to 'seek out and destroy the networks supporting our enemies in Iraq,' to me, that means the threat of strikes on targets in those two countries.”

The situation is now unredeemable and the decay is evident for all to see.

Is there anyone who can do something about these people? They are impervious to reason.
