Thank You Gwen Ifill.

Gwen Ifill was on the MTP panel with Gene Robinson, David Brooks and John Harwood and she sets the boys straight. Well, some of the boys. Mr. Robinson, the Sunday Morning designated driver, already knows the deal. Gee I wonder why? Read his piece “Misogyny in the Morning” from earlier this week.

Here is the Crooks and Liars link to Ms. Ifill calling out the boys for their “Radio Silence.” And boy do they deserve to be called out.

As a liberal white male, I think I get it. Imus deservingly lost his job--don't worry, he'll be OK since he's a very wealthy man by doing this kind for schtick for many years.

On the other hand, I'm an equal opportunity inquisitor. There are many others who make lots of $$$$ by intentionally being disrespectful; they don't promote anything that may foster a civilized attitude, respect, and harmony. Their language of choice is much worse than that of Imus.

But, what no one wants to talk about is the state of our country and the makeup of large segments in our society. Imus didn't think he made a mistake because he was addressing his audience. He knows it. It's not unlike others who speak of "going to bang hos," "bitches" etc.. It's not unlike those who say God punished New Yorkers because of the "fags"...

Imus and the others are speaking to a fan base; they represent (maybe they guide too) millions of people. Had Imus stayed on the air, his audience would not have diminished. Same for others whose offensive language prompted more donations and increase memberships in their churches.

We need more discrimination, as in a discriminating consumer
